A petite sour saison created in support of Michigan Governor, Gretchen Whitmer
Muskegon, Mich. – Muskegon craft brewery Rake Beer Project is set to release “Big Gretch: The Return” for pre-sale on December 1st, 2020, with pick-up beginning on December 4th, 2020. The petite sour saison, lightly dry hopped and conditioned with mango, is a follow up to the brewery’s successful “Big Gretch”, a farmhouse hard seltzer released earlier this year in support of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s stay at home order for the State of Michigan.
Pre-sales will be available at www.rakebeerproject.com at 5pm on December 1st, with pick-up at the downtown Muskegon taproom on December 4th and 5th from 12pm to 7pm.
Encouraging Michigan residents to follow the Governor’s guidelines during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, owner and brewmaster Josh Rake created this updated version of “Big Gretch” to better reflect Rake Beer Project’s signature brewing style, and to show support for Whitmer’s efforts to protect people across the state. The beer, brewed with oats and wheat, fermented with a unique blend of saison yeasts, and conditioned with a light dry hop and fresh mango, is described as light, crisp, fruity, and “absolutely crushable.”
Josh Rake commented, “We were really amazed by the response to the first drop of Big Gretch. Something that began as a fun and lighthearted way of showing support for the tough decisions that our Governor was making kind of blew up and took on a life of its own. After MLive and others wrote about the release, we sold out of the entire batch in just minutes, and are still receiving multiple messages a week asking for the beer, or even just an empty can or label to keep as a memento of these crazy times. Governor Whitmer herself even bought some cans, and called me on the phone personally while cracking her first one! After another stay at home order was announced, we knew that it was time to bring “Big Gretch” back, with some changes this time.”
